A FABULOUS FINAL DAY
Angela Gorman, Founder of our chosen charity Life For African Mothers, was astounded at the response to our invitation to buy a forget-me-not flower badge and donate baby clothes. She said, "The number of flowers sold was amazing and the money was clearly more than numbers sold so people were obviously very, very generous.
The baby clothes...what can I say? Brand new clothes and so many of them! The generosity of people who supported you last week is just astounding! I am going to put them all in my little car and take a photograph of them. I have let our webmaster know and the photo will be on our website in the next couple of days! These clothes are so unbelievably precious to the mums and babies. We take so much for granted.
Our wonderfully generous shipping agent is trying to get other organisations on board with this and provide the service to other countries. "
The baby bundles and cash donations were handed over at our Mothering Sunday celebration in the Priory, where visitors enjoyed free refreshments, including a special cake to mark the tenth anniversary of MWF. They could also browse books by authors who gave talks at the Festival - thanks to Andy Rossiter and his team at Rossiter Books.
There was much interest too in the display, "Where Are We Now", showing over 30 memories and experiences given by women - and by a few men about important women in their lives. The memories stretched back nearly a century and covered a great range of subjects from war-time tales to farming, contraception, judo, gentlemen's clubs and Greenham Common! The stories will shortly be available to view at the Nelson Museum.
