Something about our Speakers

Julia Donaldson
became Children’s Laureate last year. She writes on her website: "I think it’s going to be a very busy two years and I see it as an exciting adventure. " We're very happy to say that one stop in the Gruffalo creator's schedule is MWF 2012. And if you snap up a ticket, there will a chance to hear her talk about her writing, to ask questions and to buy a signed copy of one of her popular books.
Shannon Murray Paralysed in an accident at age 14, Shannon graduated in Law and has since become UK's top disabled model, actor and spokesperson for disability in the media. She shows that disabled women are as intelligent, funny, beautiful, independent and sexy as their able bodied sisters.
Jo Booth has always painted and discovered printmaking whilst studying fine art at Hereford College of Art and Design as a mature student. She then went on to achieve distinction in an MA in Printmaking at the University of Wales, Newport. She is especially concerned with landscape and expressing the world around, trying to capture its essence.
Debs Goodenough was born and trained in Canada, worked at Denver Botanic Garden, Kew Gardens and Ventnor Botanic Gardens. Became Head Gardener at Osborne House, home of Queen Victoria. In 2008 became Head Gardener to HRH the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall with gardening responsibilities for all their properties.
Helena Gerrish is the acknowledged expert on her predecessor at High Glanau in Monmouthshire, Henry Avray Tipping. She gives talks, write articles and throws open her beautifully restored garden to hundreds of visitors during the summer.

Sue Wilderspin is Deputy Head of Monmouth's Grange School and describes herself as simply an enthusiastic local
gardener with no particular training or expertise. But frankly WomFest have seen her garden and this just doesn't wash! (Its amazing!) Sue runs The Grange gardening club for 9 to 10 year olds which is always heavily oversubscribed and is accountable for the behaviour of one local ten year old who entirely dug up his parents' lawn in his obsession to "grow my own Vegetables at home too , they are delishus".
Steph Tyler is a professional ecologist, chairs the Monmouth Meadows Group and has a long association with Gwent Wildlife Trust. Her interest in managing land for wildlife and conservation is shown in her own gardens and meadows at her home near Monmouth.
Gillian Stevens was born in Cambridge, music has been part of her life since an early age. She is an accomplished musician and qualified music therapist. Gillian has extensive experience of teaching and facilitating improvisational music workshops, from toddlers through postgraduate medics.
Jennie Bond has been a reporter on national radio news since1986. On the Today Programme, once she had teamed up with Sue MacGregor, they became the first female team to present this prestigious programme. She moved to television as a reporter for BBC news and covered events such as the Lockerbie air disaster and then she was invited to become the BBC’s Court Correspondent. Since 1991, she has combined this with work as a presenter on BBC television news bulletins.
Julia Gregson worked as a journalist and foreign correspondent and on magazines in the UK, US and Far East, but always wanted to write novels and in doing so has achieved much success.
Sadie Jones
is a screenwriter turned authoress, her first book The Outcast won the Costa First Novel award.
Helen Barbour, Head of Barbour Sporting, talks about three generations of women,from 1911 to 2011, working courageously to overcome adversity, inspire one anotherand succeed in business against the odds, culminating in the success of J Barbour &Sons Ltd today.
Jessica Gordon has spent over fifteen years writing for radio and stage. Her work has been performed in the UK and abroad. She is currently working on a novel in collaboration with Norwegian Ibsen scholar Astrid Saether, whose recent biography of Suzannah Ibsen reveals new information about the women in Ibsen’s life.
Cat Weatherill International performer and best-selling author, Cat gives us interpretations of two wonderful folk tales, each with strong heroines that will delight women and will equally captivate men. "Cat is one of our great storytellers, vivacious and inventive'' - Michael Morpurgo
Erin Pizzey Writer, family care activist and campaigner, Erin established Europe's first domestic violence shelters and founded the charity Refuge. She maintains an active interest worldwide. "Pioneering work of the first order" - Jack Ashley MP
